Individual Contribution

GROUP ROLE
In Geriambience group, we split the group into two teams: the bathroom design team (Laura, Siyan and I) and the programming team (Steven and Matthew). And my group role is edit and design the model in CryEngine3 which is a real-time gaming environment. And in order to achieve the project objective, my responsibility in this project is firstly, to design an environment in CryEngine3 and import the model of the livable bathroom which designed by Laura. Secondly, edit the materials of the models in CryEngine3 make them looks realistic. Finally, edit the flowgraph of the entities which make the livable bathroom work.

Timetable
Week 2: Discuss the brief and how the livable bathroom work
Week 3: Search Australian Standard about entities in bathroom and send to Laura
Week 4: Edit the terrain and environment in CryEngine3
Easter Break:  Build a small town and import the bathroom model which designed by Laura to CryEngine3
Week 6: Reimport the develop model of the bathroom to CryEngine3 and develop the town model
Week 7: Solve some problem of the CryEngine3 and replace the lost materials in CryEngine3.
Week 8: Edit the material of the bathroom make it look realistic
Week 9: Re-edit the town model and replace some building in Australian style
Week 10: Edit the flowgraph of the entities in the bathroom
Week 11: Develop the flowgraph
Week 12: Study and edit the user UI in CryEngine3
Week 13: Final Presentation

INDIVIDUAL CONTRIBUTION
In terms of individual contribution, the above timetable show what I've done in this project.
At the first few weeks, Siyan and I search Australian Standard about bathroom and gave to Laura to design the bathroom base on it.
These 2 images shows a example of the search result of the Australian Standard.

To consider the environment of the bathroom, I designed and created a small port town on an island as the environment in the CryEngine3 which placed 3 houses which have 3 different size bathroom which designed by Laura. This part was done by Siyan and me. (See Individual Milestone)
This image shows the original design of the town.

After week 8’s individual milestone, Siyan and I developed our town which delete some tall building and replaced some Australian style houses and apartments. And I made some public facilities which include street light, traffic light and so on into the CryEngine3 to make it look realistic.
These images shows the developed town in CryEngine3.

This image shows some Australian style houses and apartments we used in the CryEngine3. These models were searched by Siyan. Exported and edited them in CryEngine3 by me.

During the work in CryEngine3, I have meet some problems, such as model lose material, game player cannot go through some doors, white label on the ground. And I found some ways to solve them. (See Individual Milestone)

These three images shows the problems in the CryEngine3.

After that work, I have watched some tutorial videos and edited the materials in the bathroom to make the bathroom look realistic.

These four images show the materials in the bathroom.

This images shows the materials in the living room.

And for the flowgraph in the bathroom, I edited the automatic light and interactive toilet.

And out of the bathroom, I also done some flowgraph, such as street light, traffic light,TV and AI.

And the effect of some flowgraph show blow.(Other flowgraph video at the bottom of this page)

All of my work in the CryEngine3 which include models, terrain, environment, materials and flowgraph could see in the final presentation video.

GROUP REFLECTION
Collaboration is the aim of this course. In our group, we split the group into two teams which is design and programming team. We consider everyone's adept skills and ability which could use into our project and separate to different work. This way could divide the group work in a very effective and useful way to do a project. In the design team, I have good communicate with Siyan and Laura. However the communication between these two groups is not too much during the mid-period of this semester. The less communication could make misunderstanding between group members. And this misunderstanding would make the process of the project slow down.Although we encountered some difficulties in this project, we finished it and archived the goals of this project at the final.
For this project, I have learned much CryEngine3 skills and experience which could use to other assignments later. And in the aspect of group work, I learned how divide the group work base on different skills and ability of each group member which make the group work effectively. And communication is a very important skill and way to do a group work together successfully and efficiently. The skills and experience which I learnt from this project is very useful and could make me develop in the later study and career period.
